The BLSO and ALSO programs are based on an adult learning model whereby participants prepare through advanced reading from the BLSO Provider manual and take responsibility for their own learning before and during a Provider Course.
The ALSO Instructor Course equips current ALSO Providers with the skills and knowledge they need to effectively teach ALSO courses. Any learner in the ALSO Instructor Course without a working knowledge of the updated ALSO Provider Course curriculum must review the most recent version of the ALSO Provider Manual and familiarize themselves with the course’s educational format prior to participating. Clinicians providing obstetrical care who have already obtained their ALSO Provider status can be Instructors
Other skills include the ability to facilitate case-based group discussions, teach with mannequins in a group environment, role model teamwork and safe communication in a group and how to give appropriate feedback to students
